Coleg Menai win Global Youth Enterprise Challenge
I had a fantastic time judging the Global Youth Enterprise Challenge 2012 in the Coal Exchange (Cardiff) this week (organised by www.bigideaswales.com). Each college had internal competitions to choose a winner to come for the Welsh final and 11 teams descended on Cardiff on tuesday morning. They were all given a 24 hour brief to come up with a business idea, marketing plan, business plans etc. The teams were so dedicated that most slept for a few short hours.
The teams then all presented early in the morning and they were whittled down to a shortlist of 4 finalists. Myself and the other judges [Robert Lloyd Griffiths, Institute of Directors | Rachel, Director of Specialist Security Co | Abi Carter, Forensic Resources] met with each team for a short Q&A before taking our XFactor style judges seats to watch the presentations in the packed hall.
11 times gold medal winning Olympian David Roberts gave an amazing motivational speech and then we retired to complete the judging. It was a close thing but we awarded 1st prize to Coleg Menai who had a great idea and delivered it brilliantly through their presentation. The team won £5K to put towards their expenses to go to the final in Japan!
Congratulations to team Coleg Menai / Llongyfarchiadau i'r dîm o Goleg Menai.

"Just wanted to say a BIG BIG Thank you for all your hard work at the Taster workshops!!! Feedback has been really positive and we learnt a lot from the experience! Once we have caught or breath we will be collating the feedback and creating a report/analysis for the evaluation meeting (probably to be held in the new year now).
Once again many thanks – it was a pleasure to work with you!"
